PremiumSchoolFurniture.com strives to be environmentally conscious by implementing changes to decrease energy consumption, to increase green manufacturing and to produce less waste.

Our tables are manufactured using “Greenguard” certified laminates.  The Medium Density Fibreboard we use to manufacture tops is produced from recycled wood fibre.  Most of the backers we use are made of recycled paper and we try to use 100% recycled steel whenever possible.

One of our goals is to produce less waste and to improve our recycling program.   As a member of the BC Industrial Materials Exchange (BCIMEX), through the Recycling Council of BC, we exchange, buy and sell materials with other companies, such as packaging materials, plastics and pallets.  Our polypropylene seats are made from fully-recyclable material and unusable pieces are sent out to be recycled.

Our engineering department has developed and implemented new hydraulic machines by upgrading and/or replacing our older mechanical machines, making our plant more time and energy efficient.  Many improvements have been made to our existing equipment to make them energy and fuel efficient.  For example, all of our forklifts run on propane and we regularly replace their tires for better fuel efficiency.

We now use biodegradable cleaning products in our cleaning tanks (which cleans the frames before painting).  We dispose our used oil through recycling and we purchase recycled oil to use in our machinery.

Our electrostatic powder paint gun runs with flow control sprays, a thicker paint coating with less overspray.  It is then baked in an enclosed oven which takes less power to operate.  Chroming and enamel paint facilities produce more air pollutants and are extremely acidic and bad for the environment.  We have also gone to great lengths to install a special machine in our powder paint line that collects air borne paint powder (from over spray) and collects them into individual bins to be recycled.

A few years ago we had changed all of the lighting in the plant to high efficient florescent ballasts because they consumed 30% less power. However, we are now upgrading to a much more efficient lighting system, removing all ballasts as they are no longer considered eco-friendly.

Our plant now uses all pneumatic (air powered) tools instead of electrical tools.  All of our tools are run on (only) one air compressor and not on electricity.

The plant staff has been trained to be more energy efficient by powering off all equipment and machinery while not in use.
